Our Story

How it all started...

Four men and six women met on January 8, 1825, near Black's Mills on
Barnesville Highway  to found The Church of Christ at Bethesda (as it was
called then) 25 days after Upson County was created. They signed a covenant
and soon after wrote their articles of faith which still express the basic
convictions of First Baptist Church. We are now in our 5th sanctuary in
which we have been joyfully worshipping since December 18, 1921. We are
thankful that we are one of the few vibrant Baptist churches in Georgia
who have been worshipping "In Unbroken Line" for 200 years.

Expanding the vision...

As we share the love of Jesus Christ through outreach and weekly services, we pray God will redeem souls to a glorious eternal life in Heaven. After the redemption of man through Jesus's blood, it is our delight to disciple the saints. We do this by interacting with the saints and teaching them the foundations of the Word of God. Once men and woman are discipled, we must engage the call upon their lives to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and His saving grace.

Where we are headed...

The church is celebrating its 200th year of existence this year. While we are very excited about the many years God has allowed this church to exist, we are even more eager for the next 200 years! We are excited to continue to serve the community of Thomaston and beyond as we fulfill the call to make disciples of all nations and teaching them to obey everything Jesus commanded.
