Bill Barber, Pastor

Bill Barber grew up
in Havana, Florida and graduated from Tallahassee North
Florida Christian School. He attended Florida State
University for two years until he sensed God calling him
into ministry. He transferred to Gardner-Webb University
of Boiling Springs, N.C. where he received his Bachelor
of Arts degree in Religion. He received a Master of
Divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Theological
Seminary.
He has been preaching for 20 years and has
been the pastor for churches in New York, North Carolina
and Texas. He has been pastor of First Baptist Thomaston
since September of 2001.
Barber is married to the former
Michele Spengler and they have two sons, Ben and Zach.
He enjoys sports, golf, reading and spending time with
his two very active boys.
John
Cox, Minister of Music

John Cox is a native of Dublin, Georgia.
After graduating from the University of Georgia and
working as a procurement
forester, John accepted God’s call to serve as a
Minister of Music. Understanding the need for musical
and ministry training John attended the Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and
graduated from there in 1985 with a Master of Church
Music.
Since 1981 John
has served local churches as a Minister of Music. He was
ordained into the gospel minister in 1983. He has been serving at First
Baptist Church since June, 2000. Through the years John
has served in various leadership positions at the
associational and state levels with our denomination.
John sings with the Sons of Jubal, which is a men’s
choral group for missions and ministry of the Georgia
Baptist Convention.
John is married to his high school
sweetheart, Susan, who is a school teacher. They have
three children, Alison, Blair and Courtney. John enjoys
spending time with his family, watching the Atlanta
Braves, and working in the yard.
Mark
Matson, Minister of Education/Administration

Mark Matson was born in Sylacauga, Alabama.
After graduation from the
University of Alabama with a
Broadcast Journalism degree, Mark was called into
full-time ministry. He received a Master of Divinity
degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in
1994.
Mark served as a student pastor for sixteen years
in Louisiana, Georgia and Florida before coming here to FBC
Thomaston as our Associate Pastor for Education and
Administration in October 2006.
Mark is married to
Angela. They have three official children in Alex,
Austin, and Grace; and four unofficial children in Abby,
Allyson, Louis
and Jennifer. Mark is an avid sports fan who loves to
play and be a spectator. He enjoys coaching and
watching his children play sports; golf, landscaping,
and completing honey-do lists..

Ryan Garrett, Minister of Youth

Originally from
Loganville, Ga., Ryan has been a Christian for over ten
years and a part of First Baptist since June 2007. He
attended the Baptist College of Florida and is currently
working on a degree in Biblical Studies.
He is
supported by his wife, Megan, who is also in Christian
ministry. Megan is part of the musical group, Casting
Crowns. Ryan and Megan are proud parents of their first
child, Lillie Addyson. "Students are in the biggest
mission field they will ever be in, middle and high
school. No other time in their life will they be able
to be more effective in their walk with Christ. I
believe that we need to instill the truth about Jesus
now.....that students need to love God and reach people
for Christ. Now is the time."
